reasons to take a business trip – by sonia vohnout

When I was in graduate school I remember my college adviser told me that part of our success in life is being able to manage our time.  Managing my time, requires a careful balancing act between my career and my family. Scheduling my time is both an art and a discipline that depends on exact synchronization between my cell phone, my home and office computers, and my memory.

I respect my friends, my family, my colleagues, my time and money, hence, here are several reasons that I use to help me evaluate when and where I travel.

1)       Is there a return on investment (ROI) through:

  • Creation of new business opportunities,
  • Closing of existing opportunities, or
  • Lead generation?

2)       Will I learn something new?

  • We all need to continuously improve and learn new skills
  • To be leaders in our fields we need to keep up with emerging technologies

3)       Network, network, network

  • People need to know you and trust you
  • You need to know people

Being at the right place at the right time is not a coincidence or luck it is an intelligent choice!

Are there other reasons why you chose to go on a business trip or to attend a conference?  If so, please share your ideas with us.

Until next time!

Sonia
